Juvenile Record Expungement
Affirming Justice, Equity and Compassion in Human Relations
In Illinois, youth with records cannot transition to productive adulthood as long as the record follows them. Youth will have records reflecting arrest even if they are not convicted of crime. The Illinois legislature has passed legislation that will allow automatic expungement for juvenile arrests that do not result in charges being filed. Records will also be expunged in juvenile cases that result in a finding of no delinquency or in an order of supervision that is successfully fulfilled. As well, the court could order expungement of misdemeanor cases that do not contain an element of violence. What a second chance for young people caught in our criminal justice system.
HB3817 now sits on the Governor’s desk awaiting his signature. Give him a call NOW at 312-814-2121 or 217-782-0244 to urge him to extend justice and compassion to our young people. Or click HERE to send an urgent message.
