Ratify the Equal Rights Amendment: Award dignity to every person
The ERA again??!! The Equal Rights Amendment was passed by the U.S. Congress in March, 1972. To become an amendment, it needs to be ratified by 3/4 of the states, or 38 states. State-by-state, it has been moved toward full ratification over the intervening 45 years, and Nevada became state number 36 on March 22, 2017. Illinois has tried almost annually, but has yet to ratify the amendment with a super-majority vote in both houses. This year looks hopeful. New legislation has been introduced and figures to come before the Senate, then the House beginning April 10. The Constitution of Illinois guarantees equal rights unabridged by sexual orientation, so this should not be a re-think! Let’s get it done!
