Legislative Advocacy
Each year, we conduct a listening survey to set our advocacy platform. We talk to congregational leaders across the state so we can learn what's most important for Illinois UUs this year. We focus on advocating for worth and dignity, justice and equity, and compassion and interdependence in public policy. From there, we partner with relevant organizations who are already on the ground representing those most impacted. Together, we find actionable responses to current events and legislation.
Our advocacy takes the form of:
Actions of the Week
Our online action alerts make it easy to make a difference by sending targeted emails to our legislators together with others around the state.
-
Advocacy Days
We join our partners several each year for mass advocacy actions at the state Capitol in Springfield.
-
Advocacy Teams
Our Congregational Advocacy Teams meet with legislators at their home offices several times each year.
-
Community Actions
We show up for town halls and direct actions targeting key decision-makers on important issues.
